Authorities say they have recovered the body of a New York City man who drowned over the Fourth of July weekend while swimming in the Hudson River in upstate Dutchess County.
The sheriff’s office says Alexander Ramos, 29, and some friends had anchored their rented boat in the Tivoli Bays area in the town of Red Hook and went for a swim Saturday evening.
Deputies say the current swept Ramos away from the boat and he called for help. People on the boat tried to throw him a life jacket, but he was unable to reach it. Deputies say Ramos went under and never resurfaced.
Police and fire department units spent the next three days searching for the body, which was found Tuesday morning about a quarter mile from where Ramos disappeared.
