A 5-year-old boy was attacked by the family dog in his Brooklyn home Friday night and was in critical condition in a hospital, the NYPD said.
The boy was with two younger siblings in their Riverdale Avenue home when the family pit bull bit him about 6:45 p.m., police said. The father was home at the time, police said.
The youngster was rushed to the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
The Animal Care Centers of New York City took the dog to its Manhattan shelter, police said.
Details on what happened were not immediately available Friday night because police continued to investigate what led to the attack, an NYPD spokeswoman said. The dog’s fate was not immediately known, police said.
