Brooklyn driver accused of pedestrian fatality, DWI

A Gravesend man was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after he struck and killed a man at a Brooklyn intersection in the early evening of New Year's Day, police said Saturday.

Sergey Osadchuk, 35, was driving a Dodge minivan when he hit the man at the intersection of Avenue O and West Sixth Street, in the Mapleton neighborhood, at 6:45 p.m. Friday, police said.

Osadchuk was driving south on West Sixth Street when he struck the man, police said. He was arrested at the scene.

The victim, who police said was in his 50s, was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m.

Police said they were working with the city medical examiner's office to determine the victim's identity.
