Historic House Trust Festival
Take a step back into the New York City of the past this weekend with the Historic House Trust Festival and Open House New York. Walk through more than two dozen preserved homes and buildings from about a hundred years ago on special tours, including the Bartow-Pell Mansion in the Bronx; the home of many an NYC mayor, Gracie Mansion; the newly restored Edgar Allen Poe Cottage; and the Dyckman Farmhouse, just to name a few. If walking around and looking at stuff isn’t quite exciting enough for you, try out some old-school cooking demos, including a 19th-century food tasting and Victorian tea to start. Still want more? Do some shopping at the Decker Farm Stand or Lamp Flea Market, where you can swap your used lamp for another used lamp that better suits your fancy. (Friday-Sunday, various times and locations, FREE, check the website for details, nycgovparks.org)

Chocolate Weekend NYC
Mmmmmm — chocolate. Need we say more? The inaugural Chocolate Weekend NYC gets you FREE access to the world of NYC chocolatiers, who will open their doors to you with demos, tours, workshops, discounts and, best of all, tastings. Grab your Chocolate Passport (from the website) and map out your route so you don’t miss a delectable bite. (Friday-Sunday, all weekend, FREE, 36 chocolatiers in Manhattan and Brooklyn, chocolateweekendnyc.com)
