On the steps of City Hall Wednesday, City Council members said the NYPD should stop vigorously pursuing marijuana arrests, arguing they are costly and “racially biased.”

Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito introduced a resolution that would decriminalize the possession of less than 25 grams of marijuana, saying Black and Latino men are unfairly targeted for arrests.

The Council Members said cops spend $75 million a year on the practice and the money could be better spent.
