Construction causes weeks of service outages at Fulton Street

Fulton Street Transit Center

Weekends at the Fulton Street station will be one big tie up.

Starting March 6, there will be no A or C service at the lower Manhattan station for nearly every weekend until August, and riders won’t be able to transfer between the Nos. 4/5 and 2/3 lines.

Straphangers will need to leave the station and walk west to the Chamber St. station to go uptown or into Brooklyn. More than 40,000 riders use the busy station on weekends, according to the most recent NYC Transit stats.

“We will have support staff on hand at the station,” transit spokesman Paul Fleuranges said.

The outages will likely continue in the fall as the MTA builds the $1.4 billion Fulton Street Transit Center, which is slated to open in 2014.

There will be some service at the station on the following weekends: March 26, April 10 and April 24.
