A major heroin mill run out of a posh apartment in the Theater District was dismantled Wednesday, with authorities seizing 28 pounds of heroin worth $6.5 million.
Three men and a woman were nabbed as a result of the drug bust, including a man who authorities spotted leaving a W. 43rd Street apartment with a black garbage bag later found to contain refuse from heroin production, officials said.
Agents then entered the apartment and discovered bundles of cash, piles of loose heroine, glassine envelopes and bags of heroin stamped with neighborhood-resonant names such as “Jersey Boys” and “Cats & Dogs.”
“You can only imagine the shock of neighbors, commuters and theater goers when they learned of the huge criminal enterprise operating inside,” said Bridget Brennan, the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, whose office worked with various agencies to take down the mill.
Those arreseted were Johnny Oscar Heredia, 50, of Washington Heights; Gregorio Antonio Conce, 47, of the Bronx; Juan Hernandez, 47, of Washington Heights; and Luz Liriano, 34, of Manhattanville.
The defendants face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
