A drunk Harlem man smashed his way into the Ed Sullivan Theater early Sunday morning and wrecked its lobby, police said.
Cops busted James Whittemore, 22, inside the theater at approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, after receiving a 911 call about a possible burglary at the venue, where David Letterman has recorded the “Late Show” since 1993. Whittemore reportedly flipped over garbage cans in the lobby and trashed the theater’s box office.
Tom Keaney, a spokesman for Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants, said the intruder did not get into the padlocked studio or onto the “Late Show” set. He said Monday’s show will be taped as planned.
Monday's scheduled guests are "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson, comedian George Lopez, Incubus and a "Top Ten" list by "Captain America" star Chris Evans.
A maintenance crew was still sweeping away broken glass outside the theater, located on Broadway between 53rd and 54th streets, and repairing the damaged brass doors Sunday afternoon.
Police charged Whittemore with burglary and criminal mischief.
