Country crooner Mindy McCready has denied shooting and killing her boyfriend David Wilson, calling him her "soul mate" in a new interview with NBC.
"I have never gone through anything this painful," McCready told NBC's Andrea Canning in an interview that aired on the "Today" show Tuesday. "He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul. He was my soul mate."
When asked directly whether she killed Wilson, McCready, who is not a suspect, tearfully told NBC: "Oh, my God, no. He was my life. We were each other's life."
Earlier this month, Wilson, a music producer, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on the porch of the couple's Arkansas lake house.
No charges have been filed against anyone. The sheriff's office is awaiting results that will determine whether Wilson's death was a suicide or murder.
During the interview, the troubled country singer - who in the past has battled addiction and faced jail time - said that she and Wilson had fought the night of his death, yet she firmly denied rumors he was having an affair.
When asked whether she believed Wilson committed suicide, McCready answered, "I don't know" - the same answer she gave when asked if she thought he was killed.
