Former Celtics coach Doc Rivers thinks the Nets could challenge the two-time defending champion Heat for a spot in the NBA Finals now that they’ve acquired Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from Boston.
“For a lot of reasons I want them to do well, they could knock off Miami,” Rivers told The Boston Globe.
Rivers, who is gearing up to coach the Clippers next season, said it will be “strange” to face Pierce and Garnett on the opposing sideline. He added that both players are still capable of contributing to a championship-caliber team.
“I think obviously Paul’s younger and in tune to play more minutes than Kevin,” Rivers said. “But I think they’re still at the top of their games.”
