Sometimes brunch necessitates something a little more exciting than a quiet neighborhood spot. Then again, a bottle-serviced afternoon dance party (a la Merkato 55 or Bagatelle) might be a little too over the top.
That’s where the recently revamped brunch at Upstairs at the Kimberly hotel comes in — it’s the perfect in-between.
There’s a DJ playing a fun mix of current and throwback tunes, but patrons pretty much stick to their own tables — mostly comfy banquettes in sleek metallics and blacks.
The tables all face outward, which allows for a little view-gazing between courses. And the view is seriously spectacular: Upstairs is located on the 30th floor and features retractable glass ceilings and walls.
Food-wise, chef Gwenaël Le Pape has created a scrumptious menu of brunch classics with a twist — French toast with seared foie gras ($21), truffled duck egg toast ($24) — as well as waffles, salads and eggs.
Yes, the entrees may be pricey, but the $15 drink special — unlimited mimosas, Bloody Marys, and beer on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-2 p.m. — may just ease the financial pain.
Upstairs at the Kimberly Hotel is located at 145 E. 50th St., at Lexington Ave. (212-888-1220). Brunch entress range from $14-$32.
