American comfort food meets Asian comfort food at Social Eatz, the new restaurant from “Top Chef” and “Top Chef: All Stars” alum Angelo Sosa. The vibe is all-American — on the night I checked it out, basketball was playing on TV — but the flavor combos (something Sosa is known for) are truly unique.
Sitting at a brightly colored table, I sampled a variety of dishes that combined American and Asian staples in unexpected ways: a creamy tomato curry soup ($5), a burger/Korean bibimbap combo — ground beef with a slow-cooked egg covered with lettuce, pickled carrot and cucumber and served on a bun ($12) and — my favorite — an organic chicken hotdog smothered in sweet-and- spicy relish ($8).
Inspired cocktails and desserts round out the menu — a chocolate brownie topped with caramel and sesame seeds accompanied by a glass of rice milk ($6) is a must-try.
