Longtime Mets closer John Franco may not be taking the mound for the Amazin’s anymore, but the four-time All-Star remains an active member of the baseball community.
On July 13, Franco will join his fellow New Yorkers in the All-Star 5K & Fun Run Benefiting Superstorm Sandy Relief. Franco, who grew up in Bensonhurst, says that he is honored by the opportunity to give back to the community.
“I am challenging all New Yorkers to join me at the event and help raise money for people affected by Sandy,” Franco said. “With all net proceeds from the event being to Superstorm Sandy relief, the event is a way to enjoy All-Star [events] in New York City.”
Franco will lead “Team Franco” during the race, which will take place at Prospect Park on the Saturday before the All-Star Game at Citi Field.
