The family of young murder victim Leiby Kletzky mourned privately yesterday before attending the child’s funeral service in Borough Park last night.

At the funeral, held at 56th Street in Borough Park, thousands of mourners filled the street and sidewalks, many with prayer books.

“Every mother’s heart bleeds for them,” said a woman attending the service, who didn’t want to be named. “We don’t even know them and we’re here. We’re all family.”

Leiby was one of six children in the family and the only son, said Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who represents the neighborhood. Leiby’s father, Nachman Kletzky, 39, is a driver for a car service and spent part of the day surrounded by rabbis. His mother, Esther, 36, reportedly rested most of yesterday.

"At least we had the merit of having him for nine years,"Nachman Kletzky said in Yiddish at the funeral. "We thank God for all he has done for us and his name should be blessed."

Neighbors described the family as humble.

Leiby “was a nice, good boy,” said Abraham, 36, who declined to give his last name but said he prayed with the child’s father Tuesday night.

The Orthodox community is known for being tight-knit, and the neighborhood is considered safe enough to let children walk by themselves.

“People like me who have children in the neighborhood are devastated,” said Leo Stein, a supermarket store manager.
