Fashion Week: Jill Stuart fall 2011 show report

Jill Stuart has got the environment, fairy tales and endangered species on the brain, as the designer offered a slew of dresses and separates with abstract eagle, owl, fox and tree prints on Saturday morning. The images looked painted and certainly were inventive. But the question remains: How many people will want to wear foxes skulking across their chest?

Other dresses (some dropped-waist, many with scads of narrow pleats) featured striking panels of suede and leather. Southwest-style shades ruled the catwalk, from hellfire red and burgundy to caramel, salmon, dusky pink and gold. One of the best: a sleeveless shift dress in butterscotch leather with a drop-waist and pleated red suede on the bottom. Throw on one of Stuart’s comfy camel coats and you’ll be good to go.
