Four Bronx cops were stripped of their badges and guns Wednesday after a video surfaced of them beating a suspect bloody, and NYPD Internal Affairs has launched a full investigation into the case, according to published reports.
The officers, all of whom are stationed at the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx, have been assigned to desk duty while the investigation unfolds.
In the video, which was first posted on WorldStarHipHop.com, the four officers shove Jateik Reed, 19, on a wall on East 168th Street during an arrest last Thursday. He appears to struggle, and the officers wrestle him to the ground, where they hit him with nightsticks and kick him.
One of the officers then approaches the person recording the scene, and pulls out what appears to be a can of pepper spray while yelling, "Move back!"
Reed was charged with assaulting an officer, menacing, harassment and other charges. He is being held at Rikers on $15,000 bail. Information on his attorney was not available.
