The 249th NYC St. Patrick's Day parade begins 11 a.m. Wednesday.

WHERE: Fifth Avenue, from East 44th to East 86th streets. Organizers advise people who want to avoid crowds to watch from 66th to 86th streets. They also recommend the upper steps of Metropolitan Museum of Art at 82nd Street. One NYPD official said the area north of 73rd Street also is usually less crowded.

GETTING THERE: 4, 5, and 6 lines

ATTENDANCE: 250,000 participants, 2 million paradegoers expected

POLITICIANS EXPECTED: Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gov. David A. Paterson and Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo was uncertain if he would attend, spokesman said.

The LIRR will provide 17 extra trains, nine westbound and eight eastbound, for those traveling to and from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan, according to the MTA's Web site. LIRR officials also reminded customers that alocholic beverages, open or closed, are not allowed on trains, platforms and stations and bar carts will not be in operation.

As for the forecast, expect sunny and clear skies with highs in the upper 50s.

8:41 a.m. from Freeport making all stops through Lynbrook, Jamaica, then Penn Station.
9:25 a.m. and 9:49 a.m. from Wantagh making all stops through Rockville Centre, Jamaica, then Penn Station.

8:56 a.m. from Hicksville, making stops at Westbury, Mineola, Merillon Avenue, New Hyde Park, Jamaica, then Penn Station.
9:56 a.m. from Huntington, making stops at Hicksville, Mineola, then Jamaica, change at Jamaica for a train to Penn Station.
Ronkonkoma Branch
9:25 a.m. and 10:27 a.m. from Farmingdale, making stops at Bethpage, Hicksville, Mineola, Jamaica, then Penn Station.
Port Washington Branch
9:40 a.m. from Port Washington, making all stops through Bayside, Broadway, Flushing Main St., Woodside, then Penn Station.
10:50 a.m. from Great Neck making all stops through Bayside, Broadway, Flushing Main St., Woodside, then Penn Station.
