Haroon Aswat accused in NY of helping to set up terror training camp in Oregon

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan announced Tuesday that Haroon Aswat, one of the men accused of helping to set up a terror training camp in Oregon in 1999 for a notorious radical British imam, has been extradited to face trial.

One-eyed handless cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri -- also known as Mustafa Kamel Mustafa -- was convicted in May of trying to set up the training camp in Bly, Oregon, and other charges. Aswat, 40, was arrested in 2005 and has been awaiting extradition in the United Kingdom.

Although the training camp was a bust, prosecutors allege that Aswat flew to the United States as part of a conspiracy to train jihadists. He pleaded not guilty and was detained in a proceeding in federal court in Manhattan. He faces up to 35 years in prison.
