Seth MacFarlane announced Monday on Twitter that he won’t return to the Oscar stage to host next year, following much criticism of his performance at the 85th annual awards ceremony earlier this year.
“Traumatized critics exhale: I’m unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep,” he wrote.
Despite the fact that ratings were up for the broadcast, which had been losing viewers, his performance was widely criticized for being misogynistic.
The “Ted” and “Family Guy” creator still has a sense of humor. In another tweet he said he highly recommends the job, and suggested Joaquin Phoenix as the next host.
