New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg became a grandfather Tuesday afternoon, his daughter's publicist said.

The publicist, Dana Gidney Fetaya, said Georgina Bloomberg, 30, gave birth to Jasper Michael Brown Quintana at 4:34 p.m. The infant weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces. "Both mother and baby are doing great," Fetaya said. The baby's father is longtime boyfriend and equestrian Ramiro Quintana of Argentina.

"I'm thrilled and just so proud of Georgina," Bloomberg said in a statement. "They are going to make really wonderful parents, and what an incredible way to start the new year."

Georgina Bloomberg is the youngest daughter of Bloomberg and ex-wife Susan Brown. The mayor's older daughter, Emma, has no children.

A professional equestrian, Georgina Bloomberg launched a nonprofit program called the Rider's Closet in August 2006.

The program's website says its aim is to make riding clothes more accessible to therapeutic riding programs, pony clubs, intercollegiate riding programs and individual riders who are in need. The Rider's Closet accepts all lightly used riding gear then donates them to anyone who requests the items in the United States. All equestrian clothing and boots except helmets are accepted.
