Bring out the insults for a roast and a toast
The late comedian Greg Giraldo was a master roaster, and it’s a shame that he won’t be around to eviscerate fellow comic Jim Florentine.
The “Howard Stern Show” and “Crank Yankers” regular will be roasted tonight at Comix by a crew of his friends, including Eddie Trunk and Don Jamieson, who star on VH1 Classics’ talk show, “That Metal Show,” with Florentine.
And while Giraldo won’t be there in person, he’ll be there in spirit, with a tribute to the late comedian and all the proceeds from the show go to benefit Giraldo’s family.
amNY spoke with Florentine about the show.
What’s the mind-set of a person about be roasted?
I don’t know what I was thinking, because every mean, awful thing that you didn’t even know about yourself is going to be said by your best friend.
Did you know Greg Giraldo well?
He was actually supposed to be on the roast too. It really sucks he won’t be there. … He’s such a great comic and such a great guy and a really good father too. Just a good dude.
What’s going on with “That Metal Show”?
Season 6 just debuted [last month]. We’ve switched the format to an hour. We had the highest ratings ever in Season 5, so people are really starting to dig the show and starting to catch on. I’m excited. It’s just basically me and my friends sitting around arguing about bands, which we would do for free in a bar anyways.
If you go: The Roast of Jim Florentine is at Comix tonight at 8. 353 W. 14th St., 212-524-2500. $35
