A Freeport man, already facing charges from a brawl outside a lounge in the Bronx earlier this month, is expected to be charged with murder following the death of a 24-year-old woman who was shot in the head, officials said Tuesday.
Jordan Frederick, 25, is being held without bail after his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court last week on a variety of charges, including attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stemmed from an early morning brawl Aug. 18 outside the Bruxelles Lounge at 925 Allerton Ave. in the Bronx.
Police said a number of people were stabbed during the fight, and Frederick allegedly fired at the group outside the lounge, hitting Shaquasia Hodge in the forehead. Hodge lingered in a hospital for about a week before she died Friday, officials said.
During the melee, three men were shot but not seriously injured, and two men were stabbed and in stable condition, police said at the time.
A two-page criminal complaint charged Frederick with shooting Hodge and wounding the three men. However, now that Hodge has died, the charges are expected to be upgraded to second-degree murder, said a spokeswoman for the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
Harry Kutner, a Garden City defense attorney representing Frederick, said his client had denied any involvement in the shooting.
“His group, a small group of people, were attacked by a larger group after exiting the Bruxelles Lounge,” Kutner said. “A white car drove by and he [Frederick] heard shots.”
Frederick's next court appearance is Sept. 20.
