Former “Hills” star Lauren Conrad has dropped the drama and is focusing full time on two passions — fashion and writing. The starlet, who has signed on for a fashion-focused MTV reality show and releases both “Lauren Conrad Style” and her third novel on Oct. 5, talked style with amNewYork.
Do you work with a stylist? I like to style myself, but when I have red carpets or press tours that require multiple outfits, I use a stylist. I have a few people I really love and it makes life so much easier when I am on the road and busy. But for everyday I dress myself.
How does a stylist enhance your personal style? I think no matter how good your sense of style is, it always helps to get new ideas and a fresh pair of eyes. Sort of like when you ask a friend, “Which outfit do you prefer?” But I also think nobody knows your body and what fits better than you do.
How would you describe your personal style in five words or less? Fun, classic, effortless, day to night.
You’re known for helping certain recent beauty trends — the cat eye, the side braid — catch on. What’s your beauty mantra? I am all about trying new things and having fun with my beauty looks. The cat eye is just something I always loved, and I feel naked without it. With my hair, I love to experiment. That is why I made two chapters in “Lauren Conrad Style” dedicated to hair and makeup.
In the book, you say a little black dress is a must-have. What’s your favorite LBD and how many do you own? Wow, not sure which is my favorite, but it is a must. I think I have about 10.
Your upcoming MTV reality show focuses on you designing a new evening-wear line. What can we expect from the line? I am so excited, as now I will have two lines to design. I will still work with Kohl’s and design the LC Lauren Conrad collection as well as start designing the new line. While both collections will begin with the same inspiration, LC Lauren Conrad reflects my day-to-day style while the new line will cater more to special occasions.
What are you most excited and least excited about regarding the show? I am excited for my fans to see me working. The past shows have been more about my life personally, and I think people never got a feel for the work portion.
Will any of your personal life be shown? Not on this show.
