Assemblyman Dov Hikind is calling for an independent investigation into allegations of anti-Semitism at Brooklyn College.

Hikind said "high-level staff members" at the city-funded school claim Provost William Tramontano has denied promotions to Orthodox professors. He says there are similar claims about the hiring of female Jewish faculty.

Hikind, who's a Brooklyn College graduate, expressed "outrage" in a letter to CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein.

Hikind says the alleged incidents were reported but allowed to continue.

Brooklyn College says hiring, promotion and tenure decisions are based on a person's "qualifications, academic record, and potential for contributions to teaching and research."

Tramontano has been provost and vice president at Brooklyn College since 2008.
