Family-friendly performances on Long Island in June
Children love watching their favorite characters come to life on stage, and there's no shortage of theatrical events on Long Island. Since many of the shows require some forethought, here's a sampling of family-friendly shows throughout June to help you plan a fun-filled day.
Aladdin and the Lamp, or It's All in the Giving at Theatre Three (412 main St., Port Jefferson) on Saturday, June 1 at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 2, at 3 p.m. and Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. Follow Aladdin as he teams up with an outrageous genie to win the hand of beautiful Princess Jasmine. Price: $10.
The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood at CM Performing Arts Center (931 Montauk Hwy., Oakdale) on Saturdays in June through 6/15 with shows at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. The famous fairy tale retold from the wolf's point of view. Price: $12.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, A New Musical at Centerport United Methodist Church (97 Little Neck Rd., Centerport) on Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Check out a live performance of this Mark Twain’s classic. Price: $16 adult; $12 ages 10 and under.
Pinkalicious at the Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis Ave., Garden City) on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Join Pinkalicious as she eats pink cupcakes and deals with a case of Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe -- a dream come true for this pink loving girl. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Price: $12.
Oz at Studio Theatre (141 S. Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst) every Saturday in June at 2 p.m. Follow Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Woodsman on their journey to the magical Land of Oz as they battle the Wicked Witch of the West. Price: $12 ($10 in advance).
Princess Tea Party at Ballet Long Island (1863 Pond Rd., Ronkonkoma) on Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. Enjoy a tea party with Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and other princesses. Don't forget your camera to take photos of the characters after the performance. Price: $19, $32 for 2 guests.
Acrobats of Cirque-tacular at Staller Center for the Arts (Stony Brook University, Nicolls Road in Stony Brook) on Sunday, June 23, at 4 p.m. Performances include aerialists, acrobats, contortionists, jugglers, illusionists and more. Price: $15.
Magic of Robert Austin at Take-One Performing Arts Academy (1021 Portion Rd., Farmingville) on Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. Watch animals appear and then disappear, someone being sawed in half and someone being suspended in midair. Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
