A Manhattan jury on Monday convicted a man masquerading as a debonair French journalist on multiple charges related to stalking and harassing women since 2007, including raping one victim in Riverside Park last year.

Hugues Akassy, 43, will be sentenced Nov. 17, and faces up to 25 years in prison on the rape charge involving a Russian tourist.

Prosecutors said he targeted sophisticated women who fell for his nice clothes and stories about a faux-journalism career. When they rebuffed his advances, he grew irate, prosecutors said. Akassy was actually homeless.
