Mayor Bloomberg's daughter hurt in horse jumping accident

Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s daughter fractured her spine and suffered a concussion during a horse jumping competition in Syracuse, according to reports yesterday.

Georgina, a 27-year-old professional show jumper, tumbled and was briefly knocked unconscious Friday after her saddle came loose as her horse cleared a jump, the reports said..

She woke up in pain on Saturday and sought medical attention, Kenneth Kraus, spokesman for the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, told the Daily News.

The mayor, who was in Hong Kong at the time of the accident, was back in New York yesterday. His office didn’t return calls for comment by press time.

Bloomberg has previously broken her back, collarbone, two wrists and an ankle. She has also suffered at least three concussions, according to reports.

Dr. Edward Alvarez, retired chairman of the joint reconstruction program at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center, said injuries from horse falls are usually not as severe as impact from car accidents

He added that it’s common for patients with less serious bone injuries not to feel pain until a day or two after.
