It’ll be no picnic for some bus riders this spring, as transit officials prepare for service changes on nearly a quarter of the city’s bus routes to adjust to customer demand.

MTA officials plan to change service on 58 out of 244 bus routes starting in April and add two trains to the J line in the mornings beginning in June at a total cost of $300,000 annually, according to MTA documents that will be discussed at agency hearings today.

The majority of the planned bus changes involve service reductions, though on some routes riders will experience shorter waits.

An MTA spokeswoman said such adjustments are routine and are made to reflect ridership.
