‘Body Music’
AlunaGeorge
3 stars

The London-based elec tronic pop duo of singer Aluna Francis and producer George Reid first joined forces in 2011, in a tried-and-true setup that is intermittently fruitful in American R&B/hip-hop (Aaliyah & Timbaland), but is by now quintessentially British (La Roux, et al), where the disparate elements of drum n’ bass, 2-step and synth-dance seem to repeatedly coagulate in slightly different genomes. After a string of strong singles (three of which reappear on this debut) and remixes, along with the collaboration “White Noise,” one of the best tracks from Disclosure’s brilliant album “Settle,” AlunaGeorge arrives with a full effort, to varied effect. Much of “Body Music” passes by in a breezy flux of fluttering vocals, anodyne beats and one misplaced Montell Jordan cover, which only sets off the clear winners when they appear, from the ascending triplet bloops and thudding breaks of “Attracting Flies” to the slinky, skittering clicks and empty spaces of “Diver” and angelic summery pop of “Bad Idea.”
