New city laws to watch out for

A new year means New Yorkers have to abide by a set of new laws. Here are some to watch out for:

* To avoid law enforcement or emergency vehicles parked with flashing lights on a roadside, drivers must move over to the farthest lane. If it’s a single-lane road, drivers have to slow down 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit. Violators can be fined up to $275.

* Children under age 14 are banned from using indoor tanning beds. Those between 14 and 18 need parental consent.

* Stores that give rebates must inform customers when the rebate is not given as cash or a check.
