Finalists for the Oscars of the food world — the James Beard Foundation Awards — were announced yesterday, with New York City eateries Blue Hill and Eleven Madison Park leading the pack as contenders for the coveted Outstanding Restaurant honors.
The nominations mark the growing excellence at both restaurants. Blue Hill’s chef and owner, Dan Barber, nabbed the awards’ top chef prize two years ago for his farm-to-eatery movement. Similarly, Eleven Madison Park chef Daniel Humm is no stranger to the awards panelists, having been named the city’s top chef last year.
Gotham also stood proud with a host of other finalist nominations yesterday. Here are some:
— ABC Kitchen and Torrisi Italian Specialties for Best New Restaurant
— Angela Pinkerton at Eleven Madison Park for Outstanding Pastry Chef
— La Grenouille and Per Se for Outstanding Service
— Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar for Rising Star Chef
— Michael Anthony, April Bloomfield, Wylie Dufresne, Gabrielle Hamilton and Michael White for Best Chef in New York City.
