NYPD: Suspicious package near Times Square just a knapsack

A suspicious package that caused the NYPD’s Bomb Squad to respond to a street corner near Times Square late Sunday turned out to be a tourist’s forgotten knapsack, authorities said.

Police said the tourist left the knapsack behind at West 43rd Street and Broadway. Authorities were notified around 10:20 p.m. of the suspicious package, and patrol units and the Bomb Squad responded to the scene.

The knapsack was deemed safe at about 10:50 p.m., and Broadway, which was closed between West 42nd Street to West 35th Street, was reopened, police said.
