A Brooklyn man is facing reckless endangerment charges in connection with laser attacks on a pair of television news helicopters in the borough early Wednesday evening, the NYPD said.
Helicopters from WCBS and WNBC were targeted, police said.
The Federal Aviation Administration said an unrelated third incident, involving a laser used to target a WABC helicopter, took place a short while later near Newark Liberty Airport. No arrests have been announced in that case.
The NYPD said the Brooklyn incidents occurred at about 5:15 p.m. and that a police aviation unit dispatched to the scene located two suspects on Fulton Street in the Clinton Hill section, about six miles southwest of LaGuardia Airport.
Police said one of the men was found not to be involved in the laser incidents and was released.
The other man, Ossieo Silva, 20, who lives in the Flatbush-Ditmas Park section, was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment. Arraignment details were not immediately available.
None of the crew members in the news helicopters were injured.
