As Democrats fight for Congress in Tuesday’s mid-term elections, President Obama went on “The Daily Show” Wednesday to try to rally voters and defend his record.
Becoming the first sitting president to appear on the show, Obama rebuffed host Jon Stewart’s claim that he hasn’t delivered on campaign promises.
“You ran on very high rhetoric, hope and change, and the Democrats this year seem to be running on, ‘Please baby, one more chance,’ ” Stewart said, asking if it’s now “Yes we can, with certain conditions.”
Obama shot back, “I think I would say, ‘Yes we can … But it’s not going to happen over night.’ ”
“It was change you can believe in, but were going to have to work for it,” added Obama, who’s now appeared on the show five times.
Stewart and fellow comedian Stephen Colbert will host the “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” this Saturday in Washington.
