A Queens man was accused of an attempted $1 million rat scam in federal court in Manhattan on Thursday.
Prosecutors charged Myong Hwan Han with conspiracy and mail fraud, saying he mailed out thousands of phony “vermin control” violation notices that appeared to be official New York City communiqués and ordered recipients to pay $120 to a phony entity.
Han, 31, printed up 10,000 of the notices and more than 100 victims paid the penalty to “Vermin Control of New York,” the government said. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
