The fashion big top rolls back into town on Feb. 10, when Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks off in Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.
It’s only the second season at the historic location, which, by many accounts, is better and bigger than the old Bryant Park stomping ground.
Speaking of bigger, 16 new shows will debut in the Lincoln Center tents, including Elene Cassis and Irina Shabayeva, winner of “Project Runway's" sixth season, whose previous collections had been shown off-site.
A buzzy warm-up for the week occurs Wednesday night, with the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection, when celebs such as Melanie Griffith, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Denise Richards will take to the catwalk in red designer dresses to help raise awareness about women’s heart disease.
After that, the fashion circus opens in earnest, as more than 85 designers at Lincoln Center and other locations throughout the city showcase their fall-winter '11 designs.
Of interest: Adrienne Vittadini’s dedicates her show to women over 35, with models of a certain age, including supermodel Carol Alt. At the other end of the spectrum, Daryl K, '90s "It" designer, makes a runway comeback off-site. Icon Diane von Furstenberg will not only put on her fashion show, but will decorate the Mercedes Benz VIP Star Lounge with her new home collection. Whether it'll features wrap-dress pillows remains to be seen.
