What do two Harvard Business School graduates and a fashion director have to do with each other? Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss dreamed up the company, Rent the Runway, to make every woman feel like she has the closet of Cinderella or maybe even Carrie Bradshaw. The idea is that anyone can be one rental away from having it all.

After enlisting fashion insider Lucy Sykes Rellie as its fashion director two years ago, Rent the Runway has every designer and head-to-toe red carpet style for rent.

But that’s not all that’s up Rent the Runway’s sleeve. The fashion lending company is helping those affected by Superstorm Sandy through a national contest they sponsored to create a Dream Prom. Affected schools submitted themselves to win a blow-out prom, courtesy of Rent the Runway. Out of multiple winners, one was East Rockaway High School North. Five-hundred dresses will be brought to the school for the students’ consideration.

Q What is the business plan behind Rent the Runway?
A
Jennifer Fleiss and Jennifer Hyman wanted to create a closet that anyone could have. You can rent great spring trends and accessories right now for less than $100 online … Their mission is to empower women and make them feel beautiful 24/7.

Q What is your job?
A
My job is to … expose the whole of America to designers clothing and accessories. I have two boys, so I get to dress women up all day now. My job is to help with styling entire red carpet looks from head to toe.

Q Where were you before?
A
I was fashion director at Marie Claire. I also worked as a consultant for Judith Leiber and Tommy Hilfiger.

Q What are your favorite haunts?
A
I love Café Cluny, Cortino and the Beatrice Inn.

Q What do you do on the weekends?
A
Last Sunday we went to our first chess tournament at Hunter College. And the boys love to play soccer and skateboard, and Chelsea Piers.

Q What else do you love in the West Village?
A
I love the cupcake shop Magnolia.

Q What are your favorite spring trends?
A
Color, cut-outs … and amazing white dresses from Calvin Klein.

Q What do you think of all the punk talk?
A
Be very careful when trending punk. Don’t wear the whole trend at all.
