Rewind: 'The Expendables resurrects action

Stallone Credit: Handout

'The Expendables'
Leave it to Sylvester Stallone to revitalize the ’80s action movie with his tale of a ragtag bunch of muscle men out to save the day. While “The Expendables” — with it’s star-studded cast of Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, “Stone Cold” Steven Austin and cameos by Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger — should have been a disaster, the film turned out to be raucous excitement with explosions, wicked fight scenes and more explosions. Now all we need is the sequel. ( says 2012!) (DVD, $29.95; Blu-ray, $39.99)

‘Beauty and the Beast’
Much like a lot of Disney’s classic animated back stock, this tale as old as time won’t be available for long, so now’s the time to snatch up the Oscar-winning masterpiece. (DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99)

‘Fire & Ice — The Dragon Chronicles’
This direct-to-DVD fantasy epic is no “Lord of the Rings,” but it looks great and the dragons are nice and ferocious. This is a fun afternoon flick. (DVD & Blu-ray, $24.98)

'Eat Pray Love'
You kind of get the feeling while watching this Julia Roberts vehicle that it sure would be great to be rich and travel the world. That said, I’m not, and I’m left to watch Roberts head from Italy to India to Bali to find herself. Richard Jenkins is superb in a guest-starring role, but the rest of the movie is just wonderful scenery with a meh story. (DVD, $28.95; Blu-ray, $34.95)

‘I’m Still Here’
While some of us (me) are sick and tired of Joaquin Phoenix — and his rap career being a hoax making him even more grating — you have to admire what he went through for his art. (DVD, $24.98; Blu-ray, $29.98)
