Spider-Man may be getting panned by Broadway critics, but he's doing better than ever among comic-book collectors.
A near-mint condition issue of the web slinger's 1962 comic book debut, Amazing Fantasy #15, sold for $1.1 million Monday night, setting the record for a comic book from the Silver Age, the 1950s and '60s.
The comic originally sold for 12 cents, and its hefty price tag makes it the second-most-valuable one ever. The top honor belongs to Superman's 1938 debut in Action Comics #1, which sold for $1.5 million last year.
"There are very few books and characters that can dictate this kind of price," said Stephen Fishler of comicconnect.com, the auction website that sold the comic.
