The birthers lost a big one this week, but maybe this is a consolation prize: undocumented illegal alien Superman is renouncing his U.S. citizenship.

In Action Comics #900, released this week, the Man of Steel rejects his American identity. The decision was spurred by Superman’s frustration that his actions — including protecting Iranian protesters — are taken by the world as acts of U.S. policy, not his own morality.

"I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my U.S. citizenship," Superman tells the president's national security adviser in the comic. "'Truth, justice and the American way' — it's just not enough anymore."

Superman, aka Clark Kent, was born on the planet Krypton.

The co-publishers of DC Comics, which puts out Action Comics, said Superman wants to focus his efforts more globally but won't forget his American past.

"As a character and an icon, he embodies the best of the American Way," Jim Lee and Dan DiDio said. "He remains, as always, committed to his adopted home and his roots as a Kansas farm boy from Smallville."
