Tribeca Film Festival celeb report: Part III

Dawson hits the Tribeca circuit
Twenty- and 30-something gals shamelessly crowded around former “Dawson’s Creek” stud James Van Der Beek at the “William Vincent” after-party at The Gates. Unfortuantely for us, errr ... them, Van Der Beek only had eyes for one lady: his pregnant girlfriend, Kimberly Cook, whom he kept his arm around all night.

Joan has entered the building
Joan Rivers sure knows how to make an entrance. Before the documentary “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work” premiered on Monday night, a festival staffer announced that everyone had to quickly take their seats so that a “very special guest” (aka Rivers) could be ushered in.
Love-talk with Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen wasn’t shy about discussing dating at the after-party for the romantic flick “Letters to Juliet,” where he palled around with actress Ellen Barkin. The single and out-of-the-closet Bravo host said he prefers meeting potential partners in a “spontaneous” fashion. “I don’t love setups,” said Cohen, who admitted that he’s picky when it comes to love.

John Legend soothes ‘City’ audience
John Legend tried to restore peace during Monday’s heated panel discussion about “The Other City,” a powerful documentary concerning the HIV/AIDS crisis in D.C. After several attendees slammed panelist Regina Benjamin, the U.S. surgeon general, over President Barack Obama’s perceived inattention to the issue, Legend, who provided the soundtrack for the film, calmly asked the audience from his second-row seat, “What would you have the president do?” Some replies: increasing funding for testing and working to lose the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.

Food fight erupts at ‘Keep Surfing’
Didn’t their parents ever tell them not to play with their food? During LG’s screening of “Keep Surfing” at the Tribeca Grand, event co-hosts Mark Sanchez and Jamie Lynn-Sigler “playfully tossed” candy and popcorn at each other, a witness told us. Afterward, the Jets quarterback and “Entourage” starlet headed to the Gramercy Park Hotel’s Rose Bar with friends. Do we smell a romance or just a new friendship?
