Phil Hughes is the latest Yankee bound for the disabled list to start the season, manager Joe Girardi confirmed to reporters Wednesday.

Hughes pitched in his second minor league game yesterday while recovering from a bulging disk in his back that he suffered earlier in spring training. He’s expected to miss his first turn through the rotation and will pitch in a minor league game on Monday.

Ivan Nova or David Phelps could take the likely No. 4 pitcher’s spot when it comes up for the first time next Friday against the Tigers.

Hughes joins Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, Clay Rapada and Michael Pineda as the latest Yankees player slated to head to the DL.

Last season, Hughes pitched to a 16-13 record with a 4.23 ERA in 32 games. He has a 4.39 ERA over his six-year career.
