Rally in city

A Queens-based Islamic group plans a rally today outside

the United Nations in Manhattan to express condemnation of what it calls

"horrible blasphemous images" of the prophet Muhammad published in European

newspapers.

"To denigrate a religion and a historical figure is an act of blasphemy,

not democratic freedom," said a news release yesterday from the Islamic Circle

of North America, a nonprofit Muslim organization with offices in the Jamaica

section of Queens.

The rally is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. at First Avenue and 47th Street.
