1 dead, 7 injured in Newark house fire

NEWARK, N.J. - (AP) -- A late-night fire spread quickly through a three-story home in Newark, killing a man and injuring a child and six other people, authorities said.

More than 70 firefighters worked to put out the blaze reported around 11 p.m. Friday, authorities said in a statement, according to NJ.com.

One man died, officials said. Seven other people were taken to a hospital, including two in critical condition. The age and condition of the injured child were not clear.

The fire displaced 15 people, authorities said. The fire spread to another building but was brought under control before midnight.

Prosecutors and arson investigators are looking into the fire's cause.
