Albany watch: Liberals press Cuomo on Independence nod
A group of liberal Democrats is trying to mount an effort to get Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to decline the nomination of the Independence Party.
The so-called Progressive Caucus wants to put a motion to that effect before the state Democratic Committee at its upcoming convention, May 21 and 22, in Melville. Cuomo had the backing of the third party in 2010.
Such a motion likely would be defeated or tabled. But it would put a spotlight on the issue. Nassau County Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs earlier this year called on all candidates to reject the Independence endorsement.
