State police still investigating 1967 double murder

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - (AP) -- It's been more than five decades since a pair of teenage girls from suburban Syracuse died in what authorities called a double homicide and state police are still investigating.

The bodies of 14-year-old Mary Ann Marzullo of North Syracuse and 13-year-old Jacqueline Saunders Mattydale were located in August 1967 after they were reported missing. Autopsies revealed they had been strangled.

Authorities say the girls had walked to a small fair in Mattydale in the early evening and were last seen later that night walking.

The families reported them missing when they didn't return home. Their bodies were found the next day in a nearby field.

No charges have been filed since.
