Suffolk Legislature District 4: Brian Beedenbender

BACKGROUND: Beedenbender, 29, of Centereach, is also running on the Working Families and Independence lines. He first won election in the district in 2007. Before that he served as an aide to County Executive Steve Levy. Beedenbender is chairman of the Public Works & Transportation Committee. He has a bachelor's degree from James Madison University and a master's degree from the University of Delaware.

ISSUES: Beedenbender lauds his work to expands parkland and improve roads in the district. He made a splash as a new legislator in 2008 by pushing a bill to require the county's licensed contractors to verify their employees' legal working status, legislation that passed after a contentious series of public hearings and meetings. He also passed legislation to help save veterans from foreclosure and, like many of his colleagues, says he is opposed to any increases in county property taxes.
