Anthony Powell, son of ex-Suffolk GOP chairman John Powell, is leaving as a $50,000-per-year aide to GOP Brookhaven Town Board member Kathleen Walsh to work for another GOP member of the town board, Tim Mazzei. Walsh confirmed his Dec. 17 departure, saying she was surprised but gave her blessing. "I know Anthony has already wanted to pursue a political career," she said - noting Powell will get to represent Mazzei in his home district. Mazzei didn't return calls, but some say the move raises questions about Mazzei's re-election plans. Sources suggested Powell may have fallen out with Walsh and her husband, William, a town union leader, after Powell spoke out at a composting advisory group about closing a Manorville facility, a move William Walsh opposed. She denied that.
