The Week Ahead: June 8-12

KEY EVENT: Apple's core. The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off in San Francisco on Monday. At the annual five-day event, Apple typically displays new software and products. At this year's conference, Apple is expected to unveil updated versions of its iPhone and iPad operating system and music streaming service.

MONDAY: Earnings from H&R Block and Vail Resorts.

TUESDAY: The job openings and labor turnover survey for April from the Labor Department. Recent reports have shown the highest number of job openings since January 2001. Also, the small business optimism index for May from the National Federation of Independent Business. Earnings: home builder Hovnanian, Pep Boys.

WEDNESDAY: The U.S. Treasury releases the nation's surplus or deficit in May. Earnings: Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Men's Wearhouse.

THURSDAY: The Commerce Department posts retail sales for May and business inventories for April. Also, jobless benefits claims for the week ended June 6 and import and export prices for May, both from the Labor Department.

FRIDAY: Producer prices for May, the Labor Department's monthly update of inflation at the wholesale level. Also, consumer sentiment in early June from the University of Michigan.
