Bill Lloyd leads St. John's, sets school scoring record in NIT appearance
St. John's forward Bill Lloyd set a school scoring record with 31 points in leading the Redmen to a 71-47 first-round win over Roanoke (Va.) in the NIT. Lloyd's 31 points also was the Garden collegiate record, surpassing the 25 scored by Illinois center Louis "Pick" Dehner in a regular-season win over Manhattan College earlier that season. St. John's went on to lose to Loyola of Chicago, 51-46, in the semifinals.
